Waste of good money

Unfortunately, I have had the same experiences as several others here. The shredder does not turn off. I can shred about 2-3 pages then I have to pull the drawer out and pull the paper out of the gears underneath. Sometimes my fingers get small cuts from the gears while I am pulling the mangled, not shredded, papers out of the gears. I have often heard the clunk of the rollers. I have paper shreddings all over my floor because everytime I have to open the shredder to clean the rollers, it gets all over the floor and inside of the shredder cabinet. It definitely was a total waste of my money.

I had expectations to shred daily (i.e. credit forms, expired personal info...etc) and not run it as a business shredder. We picked it up to try it about a year later; it is now broken.
What happened was the plastic fingers that dig out the paper in between the metal grooves in the rolling casters broke. Once one breaks, its over. The paper will pile up in that one groove, jam up, break more plastic fingers and the whole thing cascades into a big paper weight. You can see them by taking the tub out and look up into the mechanism.
Other than it broke, its does NOT do 10 papers at a time like it claims. It bogs after 3 and I didn't dare go above in fear of jamming or breaking it. Also, its very, very LOUD!
I wish products like these would last at least 2 years to offset the sunken cost...

"Jam-free rollers reduce paper jams and clogs", NOT..... If you can get this thing for cheap, DON'T. It's not worth your time or money. I bought this thing a few month's ago and was so happy I could actually shred up to 10 sheets of paper and credit cards. But, after about a month (when I no longer had a receipt to return it), there was a clunk sound and now it's rollers jam with paper all the time. I'm constantly unplugging it to unclog the rollers so that I can shred paper. It barely takes 2-3 sheets of paper now and sounds like it is even struggling to shred that. I have found large chunks of barely shredded paper in the basket. This thing stinks and I will be tossing it as soon as I find a replacement.

I've had this shredder for less than a year, and have always been less than pleased with its performance - bogs down easily, seems to really struggle with shredding etc. Finally, a few weeks ago, it made a big 'clunk' noise, and gave off that 'electrical burning' smell, and stopped working, period. I contacted Royal since it was under warranty, but they said I would have to pay the freight BOTH WAYS to ship it to Illinois and back. That's more than half what I paid for the shredder! And it would take them 3 to 6 weeks to send me a new one, after they receive the old one! I won't be buying any more Royal products. I'm going back to my Fellowes shredder.

I got one of these for my birthday, and I used it for one day only. I shredded a few things, and now, it makes a whirring sound. No more shredding. I nearly purchased a cheap shredder a month ago at a discount store, but I knew this gift was coming. I am throwing it in the trash and heading to the discount store for the cheap one tomorrow. I am sad that my mother spent this much money for a poor product.
Save yourself the trouble. Seriously.
Piece of junk.

I love my Royal paper shredder! I have had it for 2 1/2 years and never had a problem. I have found when you first start using the shredder the first few times you shred papers the paper will stick to the teeth, which all you have to do is pull it out and your okay. I have shredded credit cards and staples with out problems. I love my shredder and highly recomend to anyone. I will be buying this model for my sisters b-day in a few weeks.

We received this shredder as a wedding gift and we love it. We use it probably once a day for a minute or two at a time. Most of the time only shredding a few things. There have been a few times were we've shredded for approx. 5 to 10 minutes or so. We've not had any of the problems with the "teeth", motor, or wastebasket. I agree with the other poster about the saftey bar. I like that our niece can't stick her hands in there but it does get annoying at times trying to stick the paper in correctly. I think any "cheap" shredder such as this is perfect for our "small shredding jobs".

I'd disagree with the negative reviews of this product; these reviewers seemed to have unrealistic expectations about this product.
I purchased the Royal crosscut shredder about three months ago, and I have to say the shredder has met my needs. It's not the most powerful shredder on the market, and it's not designed to be used on a constant basis, but it gets the job done.
If you plan on shredding files occaisionally, this shredder should meet you needs. However, if you consistently have a large number of files that you need to get rid of, then this $50 item isn't the shredder for you. Plan on spending around $300 to get a product that better suits your needs.

This shredder initially was great, and I would have said great things about it. It was relatively quiet and quick and was pretty convenient with the slide-out bin. But recently I found that the shredder would stay on indefinitely after I shredded something. I'd have to shut it off manually. Now, however, it's even worse. If I put a piece of paper in to shred, the machine just makes a brief grinding noise and shuts off. I have not used this machine that much, nor have I EVER exceeded the number of sheets that it's supposed to be able to shred at once. (Probably never more than six sheets at once.) I have looked for jams or other debris in the "teeth," but can find nothing. Basically, I'll have to throw it away after less than a year and a half. Royal? Royal pain!
